Lawnmowers are essential for keeping a tidy and presentable lawn. Whether you are maintaining your garden at home or the grounds of your business premises a variety of lawnmowers are available to suit your needs from plant hire companies.

There are many different lawnmowers available to help you keep a tidy garden. To help you make the right choice we have provided a brief view of some popular models.

Rotary Mowers

Rotary mowersRotary mowers have been in use for some time due to their practical design. Rotary mowers have petrol engines which are either two or four stroke with varying performance. Traditional rotary mowers have a manual starting chord. Electric rotary mowers without a starting chord are also popular.

Electric powered rotary mowers are pushed by hand, saving power that would otherwise be used to propel the mower. The disadvantage of this is that a power cable is required so only areas within range of the mower can be worked on before moving to a new electricity point. This can be reduced by using extension cables to cover a larger area.

Hover Mowers

Hover mowersHover mowers are unique to other lawn mowing systems and offer some distinctive advantages. As the name suggests hover mowers float above the ground on a cushion of air similar to a hovercraft. As the hover mower is not in contact with the ground there is no friction allowing for the mower to move at quicker speeds.

Hover mowers are constructed from light weight materials usually with plastic housing and an electric motor providing propulsion. As hover mowers have no wheels and no contact with the ground users can move the mower in circular motions allowing more ground to be covered in less time.

Another surprising advantage of using hover mowers is their ability to cut through long and thick grass. Using the light weight to the user's advantage it is easy to lift the mower above areas of dense grass and gently lower it down through the thick of the growth. Using the mowers handle users can gain more leverage and control whilst cutting.

Riding Mowers

Riding mowersRiding motors are often used for mowing large expanses such as football pitches and stately home's gardens. Riding mowers are easily recognizable as they resemble small tractors complete with a seat, steering wheel and gears.

Riding mowers are available in several different designs to accommodate different lawns. The classic design has the cutting blades mounted in between the front and back axles with the engine at the front. This allows for the grass to be cut at an even pace.

Alternative designs feature a rear mounted engine with the blades positioned at the front of the vehicle. These alternatives have better handling than classic design riders but also cost more to buy and maintain.
